Why Study European Studies?
The European Studies program offers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary study of the issues and ideas influencing the dynamic European region. Some of the key areas explored in our courses include: the establishment of a unified European community, colonialism, the legacy of the communist past, borders, national identity, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity and migration. A student receiving a major or minor in European Studies will develop a critical understanding of the diversity of European experiences and identities, nuanced through language learning, and focused study on key topics in the discipline. The European Studies Program prepares students for diverse careers in business, government, humanitarian work, international consulting and tourism.
